I have a lot of fond memories of my childhood. Now, you may think that many of these memories are of me doing fun things, going to fun places, and doing things that were very enjoyable for me. You would not be wrong, but I also have fond memories of doing things for the ones I love. Those moments were indeed some of the very best memories for me. Helping to make the people I love a little happier by doing a much-needed deed or giving them a small gift makes me feel so fulfilled and happy.
One such memory that I have is of helping my parents. They both were very hardworking people. Since Mom also worked out of the home, some chores and other duties were not done on time.
One night, when I was about 12, I stayed up after my parents had gone to bed. I wanted to iron my daddy’s work shirts and pants for him to wear to work for the week.
I knew if I did this, it would be a great help to my mom, as much as being appreciated by my dad. I thought, “This is one less thing that my momma would have to do, and I know it will be very helpful for her.” When both parents have to get up early to go to work, sometimes things don’t always get done when they want them to. Realizing that I could help by doing what I felt was a simple chore was enough for me to do it. It made me feel happy that I could help. And yes, my parents were very happy as well.
